Ivanhoe Mines to Focus 2025 Exploration Budget on Africa

By: Energy capital & power

Canadian mining firm Ivanhoe Mines has announced a $75 million exploration budget for 2025, with the majority allocated to African mining projects.

The company will allocate $50 million toward drilling operations in the Western Forelands of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), targeting 102,000 meters of diamond drilling and 18,000 meters of reverse circulation drilling. Ivanhoe’s projects across Angola, South Africa and Zambia will be supported by a $16 million budget.

Ivanhoe aims to update its Mineral Resource Estimate for the Makoko discovery in the DRC – already ranked as the world’s fourth-largest, highest-grade copper find – in Q2 2025, following a 20% expansion of its mineralized area. In 2024, the company exceeded its 70,000-meter drilling target, reaching over 80,000 meters.
