Tanzanian President Visits Angola’s Luanda Refinery

By: Energy capital & power

Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan recently visited the Luanda Refinery in Angola during a state visit in April 2025, marking a significant step in strengthening Angola-Tanzania relations, particularly in the energy sector.

The tour provided an opportunity to explore the refinery’s facilities, including the refining processes, advanced technology and ongoing expansion projects. Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, hosted the visit, which included discussions on knowledge exchange and infrastructure investment.

The Luanda Refinery is undergoing a modernization effort designed to increase production and augment efficiency. A newly inaugurated extension unit, launched in 2024, has quadrupled the refinery’s crude oil product output. With this addition, the refinery now produces 1.58 million liters of refined products per day, meeting 20% of the country’s total refined product demand.
