ReconAfrica to Spud Prospect 1 Well in Namibia in Q2, 2025

Oil and gas exploration company ReconAfrica has accelerated its drilling timeframe for Prospect 1 in Namibia’s Damara Fold Belt, with plans to spud the well in Q2, 2025. Initial surveying at the site has been complete, with exploration derisked through the positive results of the first well, Naingopo, which encountered hydrocarbons earlier this year.
The Prospect 1 well – situated in PEL 73 – targets 365 million barrels of unrisked and 32 million barrels of risked prospective light to medium oil resources. As a follow-up well to Naingopo, Prospect 1 seeks to unlock the potential of the Damara Fold Belt – a new hydrocarbon province onshore Nambia.
“Our in-country teams have commenced community engagement, surveying, de-bushing and de-mining activities, which will be followed by construction of a 10 km road and drill pad site. Prospect I is one of the largest mapped structures in the Damara Fold Belt, is well imaged from 2D seismic and demonstrates a four-way dip closure in which we expect to penetrate over 1,500 m of Otavi reservoir,” stated Brian Reinsborough, President and CEO, ReconAfrica.
