UK contractor secures deal to boost African operations

By: Upstream online

London-listed contractor Petrofac has boosted its African operations through a newly awarded master service agreement (MSA) with Marathon Oil in Equatorial Guinea.

The agreement enables Petrofac to deliver technical authority and engineering support, focusing on maintaining operational excellence, safety and integrity across key assets, including five offshore steel jacket facilities on the Alba field and the Alba onshore gas plant.

The deal follows a Technical Services Contract awarded by Equatorial Guinea's national oil company GEPetrol, further solidifying Petrofac's commitment to the region.

The contractor said the latest agreement builds on its established relationship with Marathon, for which it has previously provided comprehensive engineering, construction and maintenance services for the Brae assets in the UK North Sea.

Petrofac at end-September reported its net loss from its business operations had widened to $162 million for the first half of this year, compared with a $136 million loss in H1 2023.

Petrofac's net debt, excluding net finance leases, stood at $622 million as of 30 June 2024, increasing from $583 million six months prior.
