Sepco Secures Contract for 300MW Solar Project in Saudi Arabia’s Rabigh Region

By:Solarquarter

Shandong Electric Power Construction (Sepco), a prominent Chinese group, has announced securing a contract for the construction of a 300MWac photovoltaic power station in Rabigh, Saudi Arabia.

The contract, awarded via a letter of award, designates Sepco as responsible for providing Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services for the Rabigh 2 solar project. The initiative is part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) under the Ministry of Energy, aimed at achieving a balanced energy mix by 2030.

Earlier this month, a consortium of TotalEnergies and Saudi-based Aljomaih Energy and Water Company signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) for the Rabigh 2 project.

The project scope includes developing a 300MWac photovoltaic power plant, a 33kV/110kV booster station, and a 110kV overhead transmission line. Once completed, the plant will support Saudi Vision 2030 by reducing dependence on liquid fuels and transitioning to a 50% energy mix of gas and renewable sources for electricity production.

Scheduled for grid connection by 2026, the plant will be developed, built, owned, and operated by the consortium. The Rabigh 2 solar power project is a critical component of Saudi Arabia’s Round 5 renewable energy initiatives, signifying the Kingdom’s steadfast commitment to sustainable energy development.
