Zambia to Approve Solar Projects Within 48 Hours

Zambia’s Ministry of Energy has slashed the approval time for solar project applications from six months to 48 hours, according to a statement from the Ministry.
The fast-tracked process is designed to attract private sector investment and support the country’s goal of adding 1,000 MW of solar power to the national grid by 2025.
With hydropower currently dominating Zambia ’s electricity generation mix – and ongoing droughts in 2024 reducing output – this initiative forms part of broader efforts to diversify the energy sector, improve energy access and enhance resilience.
By removing long-standing administrative delays, the government aims to foster a more efficient, transparent and investor-friendly environment for solar developers, according to Minister of Energy Makozo Chikote.
