Yellow Door Energy seals 24.5-MWp solar PPA in S Africa

By:Renewablesnow

Renewable energy independent power producer Yellow Door Energy (YDE) has signed a power off-take deal with South African electricity trader Powerx for a 24.5-MWp solar park in South Africa’s North West Province.

The contract is tied to the generation of a photovoltaic (PV) farm planned to enter construction by the middle of this year and scheduled for commissioning in 2026. Powerx will buy the future plant’s entire output, estimated at around 57.5 GWh annually, and supply it to its customers via the national grid, YDE said on Monday.

The Naledi Ya YDE solar farm will be built in the town of Leeudoringstad, comprising more than 40,000 panels. It will be connected via a new 43-kilometre (26.7-mile) overhead line that will link it to a substation owned by domestic utility Eskom.

YDE will take care of the solar project’s financing, designing, constructing and commissioning and will also operate and maintain it during the PPA’s term.

UAE-based YDE, which provides solar energy to commercial and industrial businesses in the Middle East and Africa, says on its website it has a solar portfolio of over 350 MW. The company is backed by Actis, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Mitsui & Co, and The Arab Energy Fund.
