Senegal reaches milestone in developing gas industry

Senegal has reached a major milestone in the development of its gas industry las week, with the export of the first-ever ship loaded with natural gas from the Port of Dakar. The announcement was made on Saturday by Waly Diouf Bodian, the port's director general, on social media.
In an ironic tone, this Pastef official accompanied his statement with a dig at the opposition. "Those upset by this news can take an antidepressant and go to bed," he wrote.
This operation marks a strategic turning point for the country, which intends to capitalize on its recent offshore gas discoveries to stimulate economic growth and strengthen its position in the global energy market.
The gas export is part of the development of the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) and Yakaar-Teranga gas projects, which, according to the new authorities, are expected to make Senegal a key player in the energy transition in West Africa.
